I can’t believe I am at the end of my first year as a trainee solicitor at Savage Silk!
My first 11 months at Savage Silk have been working predominately in the Private Client Team and assisting the litigation team, when required.
During this time, I have been very lucky to have worked with some great clients to assist them in the preparation of their Will/Severance Will and Lasting Power of Attorney documents. In addition, I have worked on my own probate files, estate administration files, which included very complex issues, all under the supervision of Emma Huscroft, Partner and Head of Private Client and Solicitor Victoria John. I really can’t thank Emma and Victoria enough for their support, mentoring and patience. Their expertise and knowledge in private client work has given me a wealth of knowledge in this area of law and I have learned a lot in a short space of time.
More recently, I moved to a new seat which means I spend my time supporting the litigation and commercial property departments. I am very excited about learning new areas of law including the complexities of dispute resolution and the various aspects of the sale and purchase of a commercial property and drafting of leases and much more.
Being a trainee solicitor isn’t just about sitting in the office and doing the work, I am continuing with my studies and just about to take The Professional Skills Course (PSC), the final, compulsory part of training for trainee solicitors before qualifying as a solicitor!
I have been fortunate to meet many people who work in the business community in Teesside when I attended various networking events. I am hoping that those I have met will be contacts throughout my career and I look forward to strengthening those relationships in the years to come.
The Private Client Team are keen to support charities including Free Wills Month. I worked with the team on this initiative where clients make a provision for a charity of their choice on their Will. We also took part in the Private Client Team Glow Walk for Teesside Hospice.
It has been a lot better than expected and not as daunting as many students seem to believe when entering the legal world. I am really enjoying the experience and working at Savage Silk and looking forward to completing my next seat.
